We help to organise Heritage Days which have been very succesful in bringing our community together. Now we are building De Poort Heritage Village - a unique venue - where local people, schools, families and tourists can enjoy bringing the past to life.

Fun Days Out for the Whole Family

Official SA Tourism website

De Poort is going to be a fun place for families with cart rides on offer, heritage games to play, niche shopping; picnics under the pines, heritage foods ( eventually three different restaurants (country, colonial and Malay) crafters at work such as blacksmith or lace maker; organic foods offered from barrows (snoek, fresh produce) the opportunity to have one’s photo taken in period dress; heritage music ( bands and choirs) of all communities.

Our aim is to welcome visitors year-round and to organise special Heritage Days and events that bring the past to life.

Starting with the opening of De Poort Village in 2008 we plan to run cart rides and interactive craft demos every day. On weekends families will be able to explore the craft and produce market, picnic, enjoy traditional food, music, games.

De Poort will offer a fun but affordable day out.

A track record of success. To date we have organised three Heritage day festivals ( 2002-4) which attracted thousands from all communities. At these festivals we catered for all ages and interests around the theme of heritage from puppet shows to steam trains, from crafters to foods. We have also participated in events such as the Horse and Wine Festival which grew out of our events. In 2005-6 we organised a branding experience where hawkers carts or “smouswa” with drivers in costume followed designated routes into the townships and informal settlements. Their motto was “if you cannot come to us we come to you”. At each stop along the way they organised heritage games for children and handed out leaflets.
