Poort is 'family-friendly' with cart rides on offer, heritage games to
play, niche shopping; picnics under the pines, heritage foods, crafters
at work such as blacksmith or lace maker, organic foods offered from barrows
(snoek, fresh produce) the opportunity to have one’s photo taken
in period dress, heritage music ( bands and choirs) of all communities.
We organised Heritage Days which have been very successful in bringing
our community together. Now we are building De Poort Heritage Village
- a unique venue - where local people, schools, families and tourists
can enjoy bringing the past to life.
Starting with the opening of De Poort Village in 2009 we plan to run cart rides and interactive craft demos every day. On weekends families will be able to explore the craft and produce market, picnic, enjoy traditional food, music, games.
