De Poort Heritage Village will be a living museum - a fun place for visitors and families, a workshop and showcase for local artisan crafters, a place where people can come for entertainment, learning, training, entrepreneurship and employment. De Poort is a not-for-profit company - our key purpose is to be an economic multiplier for the municipality and district. We will complement, not compete with, existing craft and tourism businesses and help to regenerate Paarl's historic station precinct. In developing the project we looked at exemplar projects overseas and prepared a number of feasibility studies. All show great potential for the project. De
Poort is led by local volunteers with the support of the municipalities
and many other organisations. To date most of the work has been research,
planning, consultation and fundraising. As the project takes off there
are many other things that need to be done and opportunities to supply
equipment and services. |
